Cricket Betting Markets Explained: 12 Bets You Can Place on Every IPL Match

Cricket betting markets sound complicated when you start. Once you understand the underlying logic, most of them are just “predict what happens in this specific phase of the game”. Twelve markets cover 90% of all the bets placed on Playinexch. Here they are, in plain English.

1. Match Winner

The simplest market. Pick the team you think will win. T20s offer a 3-way market with “Tie” as an option, paying around 9.50 to 12.00 when offered. Test matches add “Draw” as the third outcome.

What new bettors miss: pre-toss prices include a small adjustment for the toss probability. Once the toss is done, prices shift 5 to 10 ticks depending on who wins.

2. Top Batsman

Pick the player you think will score the most runs in a given innings. Usually limited to the top 4 or 5 batsmen of each team. Pays around 3.00 to 5.00 for openers, higher for middle-order players.

The market settles on actual runs scored. If a player is dismissed for 0 and the next openers score 80 between them, you do not get a refund.

3. Top Bowler

Same idea as top batsman, but for wickets. The bowler with the most wickets in the innings wins. Ties settle by economy rate (lower is better) on most platforms.

4. Runs in Powerplay (Overs 1 to 6)

Total runs scored in the first 6 overs of an innings. Listed as over/under a line that traders set (typically 48.5 to 56.5 in IPL). Bet over if you think the openers will go aggressive, under if you expect a cautious start.

Two factors drive the line: the bowling team’s powerplay economy, and the pitch behaviour at that ground.

5. Runs in Death Overs (15 to 20)

Same logic but for the final 6 overs. Death-over totals are higher (typically 65 to 80 in T20) and more volatile because of finishers.

6. Fall of Next Wicket (FOW)

Predict in which over band the next wicket will fall. Listed as “over 1 to 5”, “over 6 to 10”, etc. Pays roughly 3.00 to 5.00 per band depending on game state.

This is the market we recommend new bettors avoid in the first 5 overs of a game. Variance is too high.

7. Method of Next Dismissal

How will the next wicket be taken? Caught, bowled, LBW, run-out, stumped, or other. Caught is the most likely (50 to 60% of T20 dismissals) and pays accordingly low odds (1.60 to 1.80). LBW pays around 5.00, run-out around 7.00.

8. Total Match Sixes

Total sixes hit in the entire match, both innings combined. Lines range from 12.5 to 18.5 in modern IPL. Ground matters a lot: Wankhede and Chinnaswamy run high, Chepauk runs low.

9. Player Runs Over/Under

Will [player] score more or less than [number] runs in this innings? Lines are set per-batsman based on recent form. Kohli might sit at 28.5, while a finisher like Hardik might sit at 16.5.

These are usually some of the sharpest-priced markets because there is a lot of data on each player.

10. Will There Be a Super Over

Yes/no on whether the match ties and needs a super over. Probability is tiny (around 2% in T20), so “Yes” pays 30.00 to 50.00. Cheap lottery ticket if you like the variance.

11. Toss Winner

Which team wins the coin toss before the match. 50/50 priced around 1.92 each side (the small gap accounts for commission). Settles instantly.

12. To Score a Century

Will any batsman in the match score 100 or more runs? In T20 the probability is around 8 to 15% per match. Pays 8.00 to 12.00 on “Yes”. You can also bet on a specific player to score the century.

The two markets we recommend you start with

If you are new to cricket betting on Playinexch, ignore the 12 above for the first week. Stick to two markets:

Match winner, because it is intuitive and pays out automatically when the match ends. You can hold or cash out at any point.

Powerplay runs over/under, because it settles within 20 minutes of the start of an innings and the math is clean (just count runs in overs 1 to 6).

Once you have placed 20 to 30 bets across these two markets and feel comfortable with the platform, branch out.
